Doing less to do more
Doing less to do more
This is going to sound bad but by making a conscious effort to do less we can do much more. Many people, myself included, try to do too much and we end up accomplishing less because we’re scattering our very limited attention spans. When we’re more selfish with our time and prioritize we’re able to be laser-focused on the 2–3 most important priorities of the day. This allows us to produce a higher quality output that is more impactful personally & professionally.
If we drill this down to a new business sales role here’s how one could look at their day in order of priority.
1 — The top priority or action every day is closing deals. So ask yourself what are the 2–3 things I can do today to help get a deal signed and get to work on those.
2 — The second priority is nurturing the existing pipeline. What 2–3 things can we do today to move a deal forward from Discovery to Solution or commercial negotiation.
3 — Prospecting & networking. What 2 or 3 things can we do to start new conversations related to our business or where can we meet with peers in the industry to expand the network, personal brand, and learn from others.
4 — Honing the craft. This could be reading a new book on the industry or market strategy, it could be learning a new sales process hack, or utilizing a new sales or marketing tool.
